"My favorite music experience of the previous year would have to be the revival of the SIUE drumline. The highlight of the season was definitely the Edwardsville Halloween parade; it's always a blast to play for so many people and spread awareness of your organization."

"My favorite music experiences this year are the three concerts that we got to have. At our last concert, I was joined with two more flutes (I was no longer the only one) and it was nice to have that system again to listen to."

"One of my favorite experiences from this past year was having the opportunity to start writing and arranging pieces for our Trombone Choir. In addition to that, I’m also putting some things together for the Tuba/Euphonium ensemble for OcTUBAfest this Fall semester!"

"My favorite experience was my most recent concert with the SIUE Wind Symphony. We played the piece “Traveler” by David Maslanka, and towards the end of the piece is a lengthy and exposed oboe solo with the piano. I had struggled all semester in the rehearsals with the solo, but when the concert rolled around, it felt like I was a whole new musician. When I stood up to be recognized after the piece, that was the best feeling I have ever had, and I was so proud to be a part of a group that constantly pushes me to grow as a player."

"Being a part of a music program at my college means continuing the opportunity to pursue something that will always hold a very important place in my life. Playing music has been very important to me throughout the years and I want to do whatever I can to continue this activity even beyond college."

"Being a part of the music program means that I can be apart of a huge part of my college. My college is very involved with music and it helps me connect with my family. I enjoyed being a part of ensembles in high school and wanted that experience in college. Music is something that helped me make friends and new connections so I wanted to keep that going."

"One of my favorite experiences from this past year with Trident Brass (USNA student "big band") was finally being allowed to play together as a band in the fall and winter and record some charts after a long time off due to covid. Getting to make music with others again reminded me of why I chose to continue playing in college."

"Being a part of a music program is more than just the music. Being a part of a program is being a part of a tight knit community that all share a common interest. One of my favorite experiences from the last year is playing and marching as a part of the SIUC Marching Salukis at one of our football games. Gamedays are so much fun because of the parades, being surrounded by friends and making fun music. I became a part of my college's music program because I enjoyed being a part of the music community in high school and wanted to continue that relationship through the rest of my years of school."

"I chose to keep music in my life because I want to share my love for music with the new generations, and hopefully get them as excited about it as I am, and I feel like I am already accomplishing that with the few kiddos I currently teach. I want to follow the example that Mr. Washburn set and pass it along through my teaching."

"It means being a part of a community that shares a passion for music just as much as I do. For me, being a part of the Murray State music program means I am striving to become a better musician through my independent studies (private lessons), classes, and rehearsals. It is amazing to be surrounded by other musicians who strive to be better in their musicianship as well, and it is a huge motivator for me to also work hard to push myself daily to play the very best I can. I look forward to future opportunities where I can share my passion for music with others."
